Parable of the Talents
Parable of the Talents picks up the Earthseed story a few years after Parable of the Sower, narrated mostly through Lauren Olamina's journals but framed by the bitter commentary of her estranged daughter, Larkin. Lauren has built Acorn, a small community in northern California organized around the Earthseed belief that humanity's destiny is to take root among the stars. When a fundamentalist president named Andrew Steele Jarret wins on a promise to restore a Christian America, his Crusaders raid Acorn, enslave its members, and seize the children. Lauren must survive captivity, recover her scattered followers, and decide whether Earthseed can outlast the regime that tried to erase it. The book won the Nebula Award and stands as Butler's fullest statement on faith, power, and the price of belief.
