The Jack Reacher Novels
Beginning with Killing Floor in 1997, Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels follow a former U.S. Army military police major who has left the system behind and travels the country with little more than a folding toothbrush. In each book Reacher steps off a bus or out of a diner into a town with a problem, then methodically takes it apart using observation, arithmetic, and overwhelming physical force. Child writes in spare, present-leaning prose with a tight focus on procedure, terrain, and combat. The series now runs more than two dozen novels, has sold tens of millions of copies, and has been adapted for film and the Reacher streaming series. It is widely treated as a modern reference point for the lone hero thriller.
